Nach einer ausgedehnten Sommerpause startet vierter stock mit einer deftigen für vierter stock konzipierten Performance in den diesjährigen Herbst. Die mexikanische Künstlerin Maru Ituarte zeigt  in der Performance „Fleisch“ drei Frauen – oder triebselektiv betrachtet: Fleisch. Leicht bekleidet und eingezwängt in ein Korsett verzehrt jede der Damen eine Schweinshaxe. Scheinbar offensichtlich zu erkennen ist hier der feministische Bezug der Arbeit.


Die Künstlerin stellt einen krassen Kontrast zur Ästhetik der so schön anzusehenden Frauen und deren laszivem Outfit her. Sie zeigt sie während des  so gar nicht zu ihnen passenwollenden ordinären „Fressens“ eines vor Fett triefenden Stück Fleischs mit den bloßen Fingern. Fleisch isst Fleisch. Anders als der Betrachter nun aber zu vermuten mag, geht es der Künstlerin nicht darum Anklage gegen die männliche Wahrnehmung zu erheben. Vielmehr sieht Ituarte diesen Schritt bereits überwunden: „Die feministische Bewegung hat den Schritt der permanenten Kritik am maskulinen längst hinter sich gelassen. Es geht vielmehr darum selbstbewusst feminin zu sein.“ Eben dies verkörpern die Performance-Akteure dann auch. In selbstbewusster Pose stellen sie sich zur Schau. Durch die überzogene Darstellung des Fleisch-Seins wird dieses neutralisiert. Die Darstellerinnen befinden sich mit den Betrachtern auf einer Ebene. Exhibitionistisch aber gleichzeigtig distanziert, durch eine Glasscheibe vom Zuschauer getrennt, sind sie faszinierend und unnahbar zugleich anzusehen. Genauso dient in der Umkehrung der Zuschauer den Darstellerinnen als Objekt der Betrachtung.


Die Performance ist als Videoinstallation während der gesamten Ausstellungsdauer zu sehen. Neben der Videoinstallation präsentiert Maru Ituarte weitere Kunstwerke.


Die 32 Jahre alte Maru Ituarte stammt aus dem mexikanischen Monterrey im Norden des Landes. Nach dem Studium der Philosophie an der renommierten UANL in Mexiko, widmente sich Ituarte dem Kunststudium in Paris an der Université Paris 8. Seit 2005 lebt und arbeitet sie in Berlin. Neben Ausstellungen in Frankreich zeigte Maru Ituarte ihre Arbeiten im Rahmen mehrerer Gruppenausstellungen in Berlin. vierter stock präsentiert nun die erste Einzelausstellung der Künstlerin.


Die Performance findet einmalig am 03. Oktober um 20:00 in vierter stock statt und wird während der Ausstellungsdauer nicht wiederholt!

After an extended summer break, vierter stock starts engines in the season with a solid, special for vierter stock conceived performance. The mexican artist Maru Ituarte has developed „Fleisch!“ (Meat!), a performance consisting of three women  with an appetite for meat. Scarcely dressed and constrained by a corsage, each of the ladies is eating a Schweinshaxe (typical German dish made of pork meat). Apparently obvious is the work‘s feministic approach.


The artist disposes on purpose a contrast between the aesthetic beauty of the performers and their lascivious outfit. The artist shows us the three women during the not-so-glamourous-moment of the ordinary act of gorging a piece of fat juicy meat with their bare fingers. Meat eats meat. Despite what the observer may judge after his first impression, it is not the intention of the artist to claim against the masculine cognition. For Maru Ituarte, this step is already overridden: „The feministic movement has grown over the issue  being permanently critic to masculinity. What is important now is to be self-confidently feminine.“ Specially this character is what the performers do embody. In a self-conscious pose, the performers show themselves to the public - though neutralizing this femininity through the representation of the meat-being. The performers are at the same level than the watchers. Like exhibitionists, rather distant, isolated by the glass door of the gallery, the performers are fascinating and unapproachable at the same time - which, from the opposite point of view, also observe the observer through the glass that separates them. 

The performance will be resumed in a video installation, which can be seen through the whole duration of the exhibition. Besides the installation, other works from Maru Ituarte will be on show.


Maru Ituarte is 32 years old and comes originally from Monterrey, in the north of Mexico. After her study in Philosophy at the UANL in Mexico, she moved to Paris to start her second degree in visual arts at the Université Paris 8. In 2005 she moved to Berlin. She has participated in several group shows in France and Germany.  The exhibition at vierter stock is her first solo show in Germany.

 


The performance will take place on October 3rd at 8 p.m. and will not be repeated!
